With THE SORTING HOUSE, we transformed of a functioning US Postal Facility into a 30 unit, mixed-use residential condominium. Designed by the accomplished firm Architecture Outfit, The Sorting House features apartments with ingenious, flexible layouts, many incorporating room partitions that glide. Additionally 29 out of the 30 homes have sizable private outdoor spaces. The three new residential stories which were added atop the existing postal facility were erected while the USPS remained in occupancy and operation, adding significant complexity and coordination to the development process successfully managed by Cadence.
At a time when most new condominium projects chased the ultra-luxury market into an oversupply, The Sorting House targeted those seeking “affordable luxury” – a high-end, well-amenitized product at accessible prices. With all of its inventory, including penthouses, priced below $3 million, The Sorting House sold out within four months of opening its marketing center.
Construction of The Sorting House commenced in the Summer of 2015 and was substantially completed in the Winter of 2017, with all apartment sales closing by the end of 2017.
